Has anyone’s skin gone haywire from the sudden weather changes in Houston? It’s been taking a toll on mine, but thankfully, my everyday skincare routine has helped with getting it under control. Ever since I could remember, I’ve had acne and extremely oily skin. It has always been a gift and a curse. For one, I never had to worry about dry, itchy skin during the winter but the summers were always miserable. As for my acne, that eventually went away and now I only deal with it at a very minimal-scale during times of high stress or during extreme shifts in the weather. Although my acne is not as bad as it used to be, the only way I can maintain it is by using my favorite skincare products. Keep reading to learn more about my skin care routine perfect for oily and acne-prone skin!
The first product that I use in my nighttime routine depends on how my skin has been feeling. If I noticed that skin has been it’s usual oily self, I use my First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser. This is my everyday cleanser that I use both morning and night. To avoid dehydration I use a smaller dab in the morning and mainly concentrate on my t-zone. At night, I apply generously all over my face and neck to really deep clean any leftover makeup or dirt that may have not been removed initially with a makeup wipe. Although this product is not the cheapest, do not let the price scare you away:
Skincare is the number one thing that you should always invest in. After all, you wear it every single day.
On days when I feel like my skin is looking pretty dull or I feel some sort of texture, I use my St.Ives Nourished and Smooth scrub. Unlike the apricot exfoliator, this one is much more gentle. I steer more towards this one because it avoids my tendencies to over-exfoliate and completely strip any and all moisture from my face. You can use it as a mask, but I tend to just stick to it’s scrubbing capabilities since it gets the job pretty well done.
Immediately after cleansing my skin, I apply my moisturizer to retain and also bring back all of the moisture in my skin to keep it from dehydrating. Even though I have oily skin, it’s extremely important to still moisturize because otherwise your skin will produce excess oil during the day thinking that it’s still “moisturizing” your skin. I recommend Clean and Clear’s Dual Action Moisturizer because it’s gel-like formula is light and airy which won’t clog up your pores. I’ve also tried Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and it works just as well if you’re looking for a more high-end option!
On days when I exfoliate or use a mask, I use my AHAVA Comforting Cream instead since these cleansing methods are more abrasive. This is one of my more “heavy” moisturizers that I just love using before I go to bed. It does all of it’s replenishing magic overnight and by morning my skin feels extremely soft and nourished.
I’m thankful that my teenage acne finally went away, but occasionally, I get one or two zits that are just as stubborn as my attitude was back when I was 15 years old. Regular treatments never worked for me, nor the topical treatments that I would get from my dermatologist. It wasn’t until I discovered Clean and Clear’s Persa-Gel 10 at CVS! It’s extremely potent and effective. I make sure to apply it over a light layer of moisturizer to avoid it from drying out my skin. Best part? This baby will kill those problem pimples overnight!
